In this article, we examine the current trend to add the “neuro” prefix to various fields and disciplines, in the hope of increasing their scientific credibility or prestige in the eyes of the public, by borrowing the halo and the reputation of a “hard science” of neuroscience. We illustrate this trend with two case studies dedicated to neuroeducation and neuropsychoanalysis, which lead to partly different conclusions, the first one being best characterised as neuropretention, the second as neurobullshit.
